Tuesday at 7pm, Mustangs volleyball hosts Iowa City High at DCG High School for the Class 5A Region 2 title, with a state tournament trip on the line. DCG is 32-2 after sweeping Des Moines Lincoln 3-0 in Thursday's semifinal. It is the last home match of the season either way.

Most of Grimes is served by the well-regarded Dallas Center-Grimes district, home of the Mustangs. The northeast edge, toward Johnston, is in the Johnston district.

  • Beaver Creek Golf Course (11200 NW Towner Dr) is a public 27-hole course in town; Glenstone MultiGolf is free disc golf.
  • Public pickleball at Lions Park and the South Sports Complex; the Hy-Vee Multiplex hosts baseball, softball, and soccer.
  • The Raccoon River Valley Trail is a short drive southwest, with its nearest trailhead in Waukee.

Grimes does not have a movie theater or a public pool of its own, but plenty is a short drive away.

  • Movies: the nearest theater is The Palms in Waukee (the old AMC Johnston 16 has closed).
  • Live music: the Main Street bars for a local night, or Vibrant Music Hall in Waukee for a concert.
  • Library: the Grimes Public Library is the warm place to land on a cold day.
