Grimes has a real downtown strip, a handful of sit-down restaurants, and a long run of fast and casual spots along E 1st Street and Gateway Drive. Here is where to eat, sorted by what you are in the mood for, with addresses and phone numbers.
For a full sit-down meal with reservations, Destination Grille (2491 E 1st St). For a night out downtown, the SE Main Street spots: Uptown Bar & Grill, Stevie C's, and Sips on Main. For pizza, Northern Lights and Godfather's. For Mexican, El Huapango and Hacienda Vieja. Breakfast and fast food are mostly along E 1st Street and Gateway Drive.
Destination Grille (2491 E 1st St, 515-355-1153) calls itself a contemporary, upscale, and family-friendly restaurant. The menu runs from steaks, seafood, and pasta to burgers and pizza, with a weekly special for every day. Its own site says the menu is extensively gluten-free, and it takes reservations by phone or OpenTable. It also has a rooftop terrace and private event spaces.
We cannot confirm a full-time breakfast diner in Grimes. What you do have: Uptown Bar & Grill has run a Sunday breakfast (confirm it is still on); Heavenly Delights (105 E 1st St, 515-249-9602) is a bakery for pastries; Caribou Coffee (825 NE Gateway Dr) and Lightbrite Coffee (1895 SE Grimes Blvd) cover coffee and a bite; and McDonald's (101 SE Gateway Dr) and B-Bops (251 NE Cypress Dr) handle the quick option. Directories list Hacienda Vieja at 1101 E 1st St, Suite 101, Grimes. We could not find an official website or hours, so call before you go. El Huapango (3600 SE Crossroads Dr, Suite E) is the other sit-down Mexican restaurant.
