Grimes straddles two counties. The Polk County part is in Supervisor District 2 (Jill Altringer, R). The Dallas County part is in Supervisor District 5, one of the seats on the 2026 ballot as Dallas County expands its board from three seats to five.

The U.S. Senate seat held by Joni Ernst and the governor's office are both open on the 2026 ballot.
The DCG board is seven members, elected on a nonpartisan basis in odd years: Nancy Baker Curtis, Ryan Carpenter, Meg Dickinson, Nick Fiala, Monica Malmberg, Julie Quandt, and Shaylee Vander Velden. School-board seats are not on the 2026 ballot.
