The Grimes Brief
Fall in Iowa means a corn maze, a wagon ride, and a pumpkin the kids insist on carrying themselves. Grimes does not have a patch of its own, but two full-scale ones sit a short drive in either direction.
The two nearest full pumpkin patches are Center Grove Orchard (Cambridge, to the north) and Howell's Pumpkin Patch (Cumming, to the south). Both do pumpkins, corn mazes, and a full day of farm activities.
Center Grove Orchard near Cambridge, about a half hour north up I-35, is a 20-acre apple orchard with pick-your-own pumpkins, a large corn maze that changes each year, hayrides, farm animals, a jumping pillow, and dozens of attractions. A classic full-day fall outing.
Howell's Greenhouse and Pumpkin Patch near Cumming, south of the metro, is a longtime family farm with pumpkin picking, an eight-acre corn maze, u-pick flowers, wagon rides, baby goats, and a kids' play area.
Both are seasonal, roughly late September through October, and busiest on fall weekends. Confirm hours and any admission before you go.
